ASE is a global leader in providing IC test
service, serving both the front-end and backend IC test markets.
We provide a total
solution to our customers worldwide, including front-end
engineering test, pre-production, burn-in test, wafer
probing; final test of logic, mixed signal, and memory
semiconductors, and other test-related services. Our test
services, which employ technology and expertise among
the most advanced in the semiconductor industry. Together
with
our subsidiary,
ISE Labs, a leading service provider in front-end engineering
test, we are the only independent test service provider offering

Multi-functional Testing and Test Program Conversion
|
| |
|
The
testing of semiconductors requires technical expertise
and knowledge of the specific applications and functions
of the semiconductors being tested as well as the
test equipment utilized. In addition
to maintaining different types of test equipment,
which enable us to test a variety of semiconductor
functions, we work closely with our customers to
design effective test and conversion programs
on multiple equipment platforms for particular semiconductors.
ASE
is the industry leader in embedded multifunctional
test, which is in line with the development of
SoC technology enabling more functions to be added
to a single chip. Embedded multi-functional test
is of increasing importance in enabling SoC technology
and the most challenging issues surrounding this
capability are the development of multi-functional
test programs. ASE Group has extensive experience
in test program conversions, enabling smooth test
program development.

| Front-end Engineering Testing |
| |
|
We provide front-end engineering test
services, including customized software development,
electrical design validation, and reliability and failure
analysis.
Our test engineers help customers develop customized software to test
semiconductors, using advanced test equipment to test the conformity
of each particular semiconductor type to its unique functionality and
specification. In addition, we perform electrical design validation to
assess whether a prototype semiconductor complies with a variety of different
operating specifications. We also offer reliability analysis to assess
the long-term reliability of the semiconductor and its suitability for
intended
applications
and conduct failure analysis when a semiconductor device does not
function to specifications during either electrical verificationor reliability
testing.

 |
| Wafer Probing |
| |
We carry out visual inspection and
electrical testing of processed wafers for defects to
ensure they meet customers' specifications prior to
the packaging of semiconductors.
ASE was the first subcontractor to handle bumped wafer sort in 2001, and
since then, our wafer sort experience has risen to more than 35,000 wafers.
Aside from 150mm and 200mm wafers, the equipment used for handling 300mm
wafers have been fully installed. Volume production begun
in 2002 Q3. |

 |
| Final Testing of Logic and Mixed-signal Semiconductors |
| |
|
We conduct final test for a wide variety
of logic/mixed-signal semiconductors, with the number
of leads ranging from the single digits to over one
thousand and operating frequencies of up to 800 MHz
for digital semiconductors and 6 GHz for radio frequency
semiconductors, which are at the high end of the range
for the industry. The products we test include semiconductors
used for networking and wireless communications, graphics
and disk controllers for home entertainment and personal
computer applications, as well as a variety of application
specific integrated circuits for various specialized
applications.
|

 |
| Memory Final Testing |
| |
| We
provide final test services for a variety of memory
products, encompassing static random-access memory,
dynamic random-access memory, and flash memory. We
also provide a broad range of additional test-related
services, including burn-in test, dry-pack, and
tape and reel. |

| Final Shipment |
| |
|
ASE provides drop shipment services
to a significant percentage of our test customers.
A substantial portion of our customers at each of our
facilities have qualified these facilities for drop
shipment services. Since drop shipment eliminates the
need for customer inspection before
shipment to end users, service quality is a key consideration.
We believe that our ability to successfully execute
our full range of services, including drop shipment
services, is an important factor in maintaining existing
customers as well as attracting new customers.
With a test services R&D team comprising over 500 talented people
and 1050 testers worldwide, we are able
to offer our customers excellent engineering
support to shorten the product development cycle, enable assembly, test
and material synergy, and offer in-house tooling kit development.
ASE has test facilities located in Kaohsiung and Chung Li, Taiwan, Paju,
Korea, and Penang, Malaysia while ISE Labs has
facilities located in San Jose, Fremont and Santa Clara, California in
the US, Hong
Kong and Singapore.
