Driving Core Competencies to Advance SDGs: ASEH and Its Subsidiary SPIL Win Four Gold Awards at TSAA
ASE Technology Holdings Co (ASEH) is dedicated to integrating AI technologies and sustainable practices across all operations. Beyond taking concrete actions, we expand programs that actively advance to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At the "2025 5th TSAA Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards" ceremony organized by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), ASEH and its subsidiary SPIL were honored with four Gold awards in recognition of the following initiatives: "Cross-Domain Innovation for Sustainable Co-Prosperity," "AI-Driven Green Manufacturing," "Precision Sustainability for a Smart Manufacturing Future"," and "Circular and Zero-Waste in a Sustainable Economy."

In support of SDG 8 (Quality Employment and Economic Growth), ASEH has organized the "Sustainable Innovation Competition" for three consecutive years since 2022. Beyond financial awards, we provide the finalist teams with mentoring and resources to refine their proposals and business models. This year’s winning team, Guangtai Green Energy, introduced a micro-hydropower technology that leverages elevation differences in ASEH’s reclaimed water system to generate electricity for internal plant operations. We have also adopted the circular packaging system developed by last year's winner, Peikejia, into our logistics chain to facilitate the reuse of packaging materials.
In alignment with SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), ASEH's Kaohsiung facility is advancing "AI-Driven Green Manufacturing" through a self-developed AI platform that leverages real-time data analysis and image recognition technologies. This initiative has optimized plasma etching process parameters, regulated the air volume of cleanroom FFUs, and enhanced wastewater treatment capabilities. As a result, we achieved a 45% increase in wafer processing per hour, a 16% boost in manufacturing capacity, an annual reduction of 11,912 tons of CO₂ emissions, and NT$54.11 million in savings in wastewater treatment costs.
Additionally, our subsidiary SPIL is advancing "Precision Sustainability for a Smart Manufacturing Future," by focusing on the development of smart green factories powered by AI technologies. Automated transportation systems and smart monitoring have been introduced to reduce manual labor, while smart enforcement replaces manual reminders to foster proper operational practices. These initiatives have significantly enhanced workplace safety and efficiency, boosting productivity by 6 to 7.5 times. In addition, the factory has deployed an AI control system for its chilled water system that leverages over 380 million parameters to optimize operations, delivering annual electricity savings of 1.5%.
In line with SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), ASEH is advancing the "Circular and Zero-Waste" concept by collaborating with suppliers, customers, and recycling partners to establish a plastic recycling center for managing waste plastics. In 2024, these efforts contributed to achieving a 92.5% waste resource recovery rate and an 81% hazardous waste recovery rate. To further support net-zero emissions, ASEH partners with National Cheng Kung University on a "Carbon Footprint Assessment of Recycled Products," by combining academic databases and factory visits to evaluate the carbon footprint of recycled materials and explore the low-carbon potential of waste recycling. Through these efforts, ASEH aims to enhance carbon reduction measures and advancing toward a vision of complete material circulation and zero waste.
ASEH continues to leverage its pivotal role in the global semiconductor ecosystem to drive the industry’s green transformation, fostering innovation and collaboration to maximize sustainable impact.
